Gamedev is hard enough in a vacuum, but when your designs are required to synergize with corporate strategies piled on top of corporate strategies from different departments of different companies in a monolithic corporate hierarchy, I honestly don't know how they ever find a slot for a single card that wasn't 95% constrained by the corporate business strategy. I used to think Magic R&D would be a dream job since I read all of Mark Rosewater's "Making Magic" column up to around 2016 I think, but now I think it would be an anxiety-inducing, disappointing mistake.

Wotc and R&D are a joke used for Hasbro to laugh at us while taking our money over obviously strong cards that will be banned but take so long everyone is unsure so they keep buying product to get those cards until it's banned at which point wotc has made Hasbro stock holders happy with the sets sales
#Mtg commander hullbreacher banned plus#
like every other walker with removal had it as a minus ability and now that it's a plus ability you didn't think players would use it for every ounce its worth? Heck look at ] at their excuse of "oh we didn't think anyone would use his plus abilities to destroy the opponents permanents" It took over the format all because wotc didn't put together a two card combo in good controlling midrange colors was a bad idea in a format with a parasitic text ability (energy) and a good card turn 1 that makes energy and fixes colors ] that also got banned because once cat combo was banned temur energy took over. Oh well anyway it should be fine right guys?Įxcept it wasn't and cat combo became a more refined midrange/combo list able to stall value until going infinite. Once Guardian was spoiled everyone was like "wtf wotc why would you print this 2 card infinite combo into standard?!" They effectively reprinted a splinter twin combo into standard by printing ] and literally the set after they printed ].

Must be new to the game or paying attention to wotc not doing their basic homework.
